F A Q
What Is a Tax Residency Certificate Used For?
A TRC confirms UAE tax residency status. The certificate may be used for the purposes of double tax treaties and in other situations where official confirmation of tax residency is required.
When Can a Company Apply for a TRC?
A legal entity must have been incorporated or registered for at least 12 months before applying for a Tax Residency Certificate. It must also meet the requirements applicable to the selected type of certificate.
What Documents Are Required to Obtain a TRC?
The required documents depend on the type of applicant and the purpose of the certificate. The FTA may request company registration details, information about the authorised person, and documents confirming compliance with the tax residency criteria.
Can a TRC Be Obtained for the Purposes of a Double Tax Treaty?
Yes. The FTA provides a specific Tax Residency Certificate option for the application of the UAE’s effective double tax treaties. When applying, the relevant country must be selected and the required information provided.
For What Period Is a Tax Residency Certificate Issued?
The certificate is issued for the selected tax period or another period of up to 12 months. It cannot cover a future period that has not yet begun.
